Given the whale deaths along the Shore this winter, I thought I would look to history to find out if there ever was as large a washup of whales.

People often comment on the photos on my instagram @tjvvin12. Many of them are sunrises, as I walk the beach near my home most days. Capturing stunning photographs of the sunrise can be easy.

The Monmouth Shore has an ugly history of segregation. The problem was most pronounced in Asbury Park which welcomed hotel workers from all over the Shore to live on the West Side of town but resisted allowing these residents to co-mingle in the public spaces of the resort.

Long form post: Modern History writers, climbing on the backs of others, without proper further investigation, unknowingly perpetuate a false narrative of the Last Hawaiian King and his falling out with Tycoon Claus Spreckels over a card game. 

This story negatively impacts the legacy of Hawaiian King David Kalākaua. The story happened during a critical time in his reign. The break with Spreckels has historical significance and indirectly led the loss of the King’s exclusive sovereign powers, and eventually cost the Hawaiian’s their independence.
