2025

The last of the Sea Girt anniversary posts; 150 days completed. 150 years celebrated.

I'm grateful to anyone who has read any of my posts. I'm also grateful to writers at the Coast Star, Spring Lake Magazine, the Asbury Park Press, the Spring Lake Gazette, and the Library Company of Philadelphia who produced so many interesting stories over 150 years.

2025 is not finished. The themes in Sea Girt are consistent. Nothing is really new. The Paradise of Watering Places is still intact. It has changed and will continue to change. That we cannot change.

Some open items:

-The second paddle tennis court in the Crescent / Cornelius Park.

-Declining school enrollment at our excellent school.

-A little triangle at the entrance to town that's been waiting for some love for a while.

-Borough Hall is too small...oh well.

-The Library needs more space, and now has the money to do something about it.

We have high-quality problems here.

People love the place and want the best for it. May 2025 bring you and your loved ones gratitude for having spent time in Sea Girt.

Our elected leaders have a tough task. They give their time, some give decades, with little pay, and they open themselves to criticism for their efforts.

Mayors and all Council members over the decades deserve our gratitude. I expect not much will change. Mayor Fetzer will eventually pass the reins to another Republican, maybe Council President Anthony, but Sea Girt voters will be attentive and keep them honest. Get to know your current borough leadership:

  • Don Fetzer Mayor

  • Diane Anthony Council President

  • Hilary DiFeo Councilperson

  • Brian Perry Councilperson

  • Dr. Maria Richman Councilperson

  • Alan Zakin Councilperson

  • Tom Downey Councilperson

The Beach and the DEP will keep the town safe and beautiful. There will be some complaining about the cost, but it’s nice to have your garbage picked up from your backyard by a familiar face, and know that well-trained top athletes are looking out for you when you are in the water.

Who doesn’t love the DPW?

The SG Police Department will continue to protect and serve from their crowded little station, with a friendly smile and a seriousness of task. Thank them for their service when you encounter them.

The Fire Company will continue to be central to the social and safety fabric of the community, always looking for a few good members to assist in an emergency.

The library and the lighthouse and Rods and the Parker House, and the remaining slate sidewalks will continue to reflect our history. A few old houses will persist, some old folks who remember how things were, and the beach will outlast us all. Share your memories and old photos. If I left out your favorite SG story, tell me about it.

Enjoy the summer of 150. See you at the beach.
